The Winter 2015 LRTR match was conducted Saturday  January 17, 2015. Set up was done on Friday by Neill, Kevin and Rocky. This was done mostly in the fog  with  faith and  hope being the operative word for Saturday. The scores are noted on the attachment and if you are interested the COF is also provided for review.

Come Saturday eight shooters showed up for a progressive BS session from about 0830 to 1130 when the fog finally lifted and we were able to shoot.

We fired from 3 locations on the range, known as FFPs or forward firing point. A variety of targets were set out, known as TRPs or target reference points, for the teams to engage.

I am probably the only person that does things at times that just make me scratch my own head and Saturday was one of them. Technology today is incredible and when used properly can really be a help to long range shooters. Having the best ballistic programs right on your phone is an amazing thing. That said however, it helps to use the proper 308 ballistic tables for ones gun and load versus using the tables for your 300 Win Magnum LRTR rifle. Cripes. I did figure that out as we neared the end of the match.

The new skip loader proved its worth that day as well.  We spent nearly an hour getting Rob Morgan’s truck, which was dang near buried  to the axles, out of the mud. Oh, my truck to, but it  was not stuck as bad as Rob’s.

All in all we had a good day shooting, shooting the bull  with good friends and getting soaking wet in the snow and rain  that fell in the afternoon.

The offsite Spring LRTR will be held in the same general area as last year North of Emmett Idaho up Four Mile road, due east of Paddock Reservoir. Date of the match will be April 18th with the normal set up taking place on the 16th and 17th.  Watch for more info in the weeks ahead.
