The inaugural Practical Precision steel match was a low key event to test the feasibility of a simple rifle- friendly match where both hunting and tactical rifles can be used. The temperature was approximately 50 °F and the wind ranged from 15-25 mph with continuous gusts. This resulted in significant modifications to the course of fire. Times were extended and target size increased slightly from original design. There were only three participants and everyone had a great time despite some tough wind conditions. It was a good introduction for those without much experience with the match format. There were several inquiries about the match, but scheduling conflicts and poor weather probably kept some people from attending. We all learned some things.
Brad Grafe was the big winner with a score of 460 out of 810.
There was a possible 50 rounds and the average shot distance was 397.9 yards. The percentage of points acquired by participants was 41% of the total available and 53% of the shots fired were hits. There were a number of errors made by shooters including using the wrong sight setting for the distance, turning the windage knob the wrong way, shooting the wrong target, and using the wrong ammunition for the DOPE. Two equipment failures occurred. One magazine came apart when it hit the concrete and one round failed to feed properly from a magazine.
Thanks to those who inquired and participated.
